The Leikeim family represents five generations of brewing excellence from Franconia, Germany. Their passion for heritage led them to master the Steinbier (Stone Beer) — one of the oldest and most fascinating brewing techniques in history. This method predates the use of metal brewing kettles. For millennia, including in remote Austrian and German villages until the early 1900s, beer was brewed in wooden vessels. To boil the wort, stones were heated over an open fire until glowing red and then dropped directly into the liquid. This process causes the malt sugars to instantly caramelize on the surface of the stones, creating a rich, sweet crust. These caramelized stones are later placed into the fermentation tanks, where the sugars dissolve back into the beer. The result is a truly unique flavor profile: a balanced, smoky sweetness with notes of toffee and roasted malt. Leikeim Steinbier is more than a drink; it is a liquid archaeological treasure.
